Change the pen color or thickness in Microsoft OneNote

In Microsoft OneNote, you can easily customize the color and thickness of your pen while handwriting or drawing notes.

Change the color of the selected pen

  1. On the Draw tab, select the pen you want, and then tap any of the color dots (black, blue, green, or red) to switch to that color. If you want to switch color in mid-drawing, just tap another color at any time.

  2. To choose a specific color not already shown on the Draw tab, tap the Colors control to the right of the solid color dots, and then do any of the following:

    • With your finger, move the wheel until the color you want comes into view, and then tap the color you want.

    • To adjust the intensity of the selected color, move the slider control in the inner ring of the wheel until it is the exact color you want.

    • To continue drawing with the color you have selected, tap the big inner circle of the color wheel.

Change the thickness of the selected pen

  1. Click the Draw tab, and then select the pen and color you want.

  2. To the right of the color controls, tap either the + or the symbol to increase or decrease the thickness of the currently selected pen. To switch pen thickness in mid-drawing, tap either the + or the symbol as often as needed to reach the thickness you want.

Note: The pen that you choose on the Draw tab determines the limits of thickness that its ink strokes can apply. If you prefer lighter strokes, choose the pen on the left (next to the eraser). For thicker strokes, choose the marker (in the middle) or the highlighter (on the right).
