Change the font in Outlook 2016 for Mac

You can change the text size of incoming messages for viewing in open message windows or in the reading pane, and you can select default fonts and font sizes for HTML and plain text messages that you send.

Change the text size for incoming messages

  1. At the bottom of the navigation pane, click Mail.

  2. In the message list, select a message.

  3. On the Format menu, click Increase Font Size or Decrease Font Size.


  • The keyboard shortcut for increasing font size is COMMAND + + . The keyboard shortcut for decreasing font size is COMMAND + - .

  • This procedure also applies to sent messages and saved drafts.

Choose a default font for outgoing messages

  1. On the Outlook menu, click Preferences.

  2. Under Personal Settings, click Fonts.

  3. Select the options that you want.

Note:  Incoming HTML messages often have font styles and font sizes applied to the text. The default font and font sizes that you select will not affect the formatting of these incoming messages.
