Buy a subscription to Office 365 for home from your free trial

Office 365 for business admins: See Buy a subscription to Office 365 for business from your free trial.

Home users: This topic explains how to buy Office 365 when you're using a free 30-day trial of Office 365 Home or Office 365 Personal.

If automatic renewal is already turned on, you don’t have to do anything. The payment method, such as a credit card or PayPal, that you provided when you signed up for your trial will be automatically charged when your trial ends, unless you cancel the trial by turning off automatic renewal.

If automatic renewal is turned off, you’ll need to turn it on, or redeem a one-time prepaid product key from a retail store.

Important: If your Office 365 trial came pre-installed on your computer or device, automatic renewal is turned off, by default.

Verify that automatic renewal is turned on

If automatic renewal is turned on, you don’t need to do anything to buy Office 365.

Here's how to verify that automatic renewal is turned on:

  1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page.

  2. If prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account email and password associated with your Office 365 trial subscription. We can help if you can't remember the Microsoft account or password you use with Office.

  3. On the Services & subscriptions page, find the subscription you want to renew.

    • If you see a renewal date, or a notice of an upcoming charge next to the subscription, that means automatic renewal is turned on, and your subscription will renew on the date shown.

    • If you see an expiration date, or a Renew link, that means automatic renewal is turned off, and you need to either turn it on, or use a prepaid product key.
