Add a dimension to a model or model subsite

You can add a dimension to a model in PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler when you create the model, or add a dimension to an existing model. When you add a dimension to a model, you can add it directly to a model site, or you can add it to a subsite by sharing it from the site level.

To add a dimension to an existing model site:

  1. In the Workspace Browser, expand the Models node.

  2. Click the model to which you want to add the dimension.

  3. In the Model Tasks pane, click Check out, and then click Manage Model Dimensions to open the Manage Model Dimensions dialog box.

  4. In the Dimension box select the dimension that you want to add.

  5. Select the dimension member set that you want to add, and then type an alias for it in the Alias box.

  6. Click the RIGHT ARROW button to add the dimension to the list of dimensions in the model.

  7. Click OK to save your changes.

Important: If you change the dimensions or dimension structures (such as members and member sets) in a model, you should redeploy the model site. Otherwise, PerformancePoint Planning Server does not update the application database, and the changes are only available for use on the local computer.

Add a dimension to a subsite by sharing it from the site level

When you first create a dimension, it is created at the model site level. Later, you can add a dimension that exists in the model site to any subsite of that model site by simply sharing the dimension with the subsite. When a dimension is shared, Planning Business Modeler makes all the members and member sets of the dimension available to any subsite of the model site where the dimension originates.

To add a dimension to a subsite by sharing it from the site level:

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, click Dimensions to open the dimensions workspace.

  2. In the workspace, click the dimension that you want to share.

  3. In the Dimension Tasks pane of the workspace, click Check Out.

  4. Click the Summary tab to open the workspace.

  5. In the Shared property column of the General section, select True from the drop-down list, and then click Save Dimension.

Important: If you change the dimensions or dimension structures (such as members and member sets) in a model, you should redeploy the model site. Otherwise, PerformancePoint Planning Server does not update the application database, and the changes are only available for use on the local computer.
