Visio Services in SharePoint Online roadmap

We no longer recommend using Visio Services (also called Visio Web Access)  or the Visio Web Access Web Part with SharePoint Online. These features will be retired from Office 365 and SharePoint Online. We will stop Visio Services and stop supporting the Visio Web Access Web Part in September 2018.

Note   In SharePoint Server, these features will be supported in accordance with the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy.

Use Visio Online from now on. Visio Online is your choice for future solutions in SharePoint Online. Visio Online is a new way to view, edit, and share Visio diagrams on the web. For more information, see View, create, and edit a diagram in Visio Online and Visio Online help.

Migrate Visio Services diagrams to Visio Online

Visio Online provides many improvements to Visio Services (also called Visio Web Access). The following sections provide detailed instructions for migrating Visio Services to Visio Online.

Insert a Visio Online diagram on a modern SharePoint page

There are two ways to do this.

Add a Document web part to a modern SharePoint page

  1. Create a modern SharePoint page where you wish to insert the Visio diagram. For more information, see Add a page to a site.

  2. Click Circled plus sign used to add a modern web part to a page , and then choose Document.

Embed a Visio diagram in a SharePoint page command

  3. Browse to a Visio diagram that you wish to insert, and then choose Add Document.

For more information, see Using web parts on SharePoint Online pages.

Use the Embed command in Visio Online editor preview

  1. Open the Visio diagram, select Open Diagram, and then select Edit in Browser.

  2. Select File > Share > Embed.

  3. In the Embed dialog box, copy the Embed code.

  4. On a modern SharePoint page, add the Embed Code Web Part, and then add the embed code to it.

For more information, see Use the Embed web part on a modern page.

Create a Visio Online mashup with the Visio JavaScript API

Visio JavaScript APIs enable programmatic access to Visio Online diagrams on a SharePoint page. Use the APIs to first embed a Visio diagram in an HTML <Iframe> element, and then interact with the diagram elements using a script editor web part. For more information on key concepts and code examples to get you started, see Migrate from Visio Web Access to Visio Online.
