Learning Tools are built into the Windows 10 Edge browser, adding more options for readers in your class to interact with texts. Use Learning Tools in Edge to hear any webpage, PDF, or ePub read out loud while following along with the words on screen. Readers can also boost text readability by adjusting font and line spacing in ePub books.
Read a webpage
To launch Read aloud, right-click on any word on the webpage and select Read aloud. Read aloud will begin automatically reading at the word you selected.
A ribbon toolbar will appear at the top of the page after you launch Read aloud. The toolbar includes the Play button, buttons to skip to the next or previous paragraph, and a button to adjust your Voice settings. Voice settings allow you to select from different Microsoft voices as well as change the speed of the reader.
Read aloud highlights each word on the webpage as it's being read. To stop listening, select the Pause button or the X to close Read aloud.
Tip: Another way to access Read aloud is to select the Settings and more icon, and then Read aloud.
Read a PDF
Open your PDF document in the Edge browser and click the top of the page to view your PDF toolbar, which includes the Read aloud button. Or, right-click on the document and select Read aloud from the options.
The reader will begin reading from the first word of the document and highlight each word as it goes along.
Customize and read an ePub
Free e-books in .epub format you open from the web will automatically open in Microsoft Edge. Click the top of the page to view your ePub toolbar. Select Options to adjust font size, style, theme, and the amount of spacing between lines and letters. Select the Read aloud icon to begin listening.
You can also access the toolbar or Read aloud options by right-clicking your mouse on the page.
