Use a screen reader to send messages in StaffHub

This article is for people who use a screen reader program with the Office products and is part of the Office Accessibility content set. For more general help, see Office Support home.

Use Microsoft StaffHub with VoiceOver, the built-in iOS screen reader, to send and read messages to one or more people.

Notes: 

  • New Office 365 features are released gradually to Office 365 subscribers, so your app might not have these features yet. To learn how you could get new features faster, visit When do I get the newest features in Office 2016 for Office 365?.

  • This topic assumes that you are using the built-in iOS screen reader, VoiceOver. To learn more about using VoiceOver, visit Apple accessibility.

  • This topic assumes that you are using an iPhone. Some navigation and gestures might be different for an iPad.

Write and send a new message

  1. To go to the Messages tab, swipe left or right until you hear "Messages, tab," and then double-tap the screen.

  2. To write a new message, swipe left or right until you hear "Create message," and then double-tap the screen. You hear: "Create message, Text field is editing." The focus is in the To field.

  3. Use the on-screen keyboard to type a recipient name or swipe right until you hear the name of the team member you want to add, and then double-tap the screen. To add more than one recipient, repeat either action.

  4. Swipe left until you hear "Next button," and then double-tap the screen. You hear the recipient name(s), followed by "Back button."

  5. Swipe right until you hear "Write a message, text field," and then double-tap the screen.

  6. Use the on-screen keyboard to type your message.

  7. When you're done writing your message, swipe left until you hear "Send message, button," and then double-tap the screen.

    Your message has now been sent to the selected team member(s).

  8. To return to the main view of the Messages tab, swipe left until you hear "Back button," and then double-tap the screen.

Read received messages

  1. To go to the Messages tab, swipe left or right until you hear "Messages, tab," and then double-tap the screen.

    Tip: To check if you've any unread messages, on any tab, swipe left or right until you hear the number of unread messages.

  2. Swipe left or right until you hear the message you want to read, and then double-tap the screen.

  3. In the message, swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger. You hear the latest message in the conversation.

  4. To hear the whole conversation from the oldest message to the latest one, swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers. To stop the continuous reading, tap the screen with two fingers.

  5. To browse through the messages in the conversation one by one, swipe left or right.

Reply to messages

  1. Navigate to the conversation you want to reply to as instructed above.

  2. In the conversation, swipe right until you hear "Write a message, text field," and then double-tap the screen.

  3. Use the on-screen keyboard to type your message.

  4. When you're done writing your message, swipe left until you hear "Send message, button," and then double-tap the screen.

Write and send a new message

  1. To go to the Messages tab, swipe left or right until you hear "Messages, button," and then double-tap the screen.

  2. To write a new message, swipe right until you hear "Create conversation," and then double-tap the screen. The Create Conversation window opens with the focus in the To field.

  3. Use the on-screen keyboard to type a recipient name or swipe right until you hear the name of the team member you want to add, and then double-tap the screen. To add more than one recipient, repeat either action.

  4. Swipe right until you hear "Write a message, three period, edit box," and then double-tap the screen.

  5. Use the on-screen keyboard to type your message.

  6. When you're done writing your message, swipe right until you hear "Send message, button," and then double-tap the screen.

    Your message has now been sent to the selected team member(s).

  7. To return to the main view of the Messages tab, swipe left until you hear "Navigate up, button," and then double-tap the screen.

Read received messages

  1. To go to the Messages tab, swipe left or right until you hear "Messages, button," and then double-tap the screen.

    Tip: To check if you've any unread messages, on any tab, swipe left or right until you hear the number of unread messages.

  2. Swipe left or right until you hear the conversation you want to read, and then double-tap the screen.

  3. To hear the whole conversation from the oldest message to the latest one, swipe down-then-right to open the Global Context Menu. Swipe right until you hear "Read from top," and then double-tap the screen. To stop the continuous reading, tap the screen with two fingers.

  2. In the conversation, swipe right until you hear "Write a message, three period, edit box," and then double-tap the screen.

  3. Use the on-screen keyboard to type your message.

  4. When you're done writing your message, swipe right until you hear "Send message, button," and then double-tap the screen.
