Weibo has made an update to their API that will impact Microsoft apps and services. Weibo’s API is the tool that we use to connect your Microsoft account to your Weibo content. It brings contact information from your Weibo friends into Outlook.com and the Windows People app, keeps those contacts up-to-date, and provides options in apps and services like Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, and OneDrive to share to Weibo. We collectively refer to these features as Sina Weibo Connect.

Due to these changes, Sina Weibo Connect features will no longer be supported. This article explains how these changes will impact your connected apps and services.

Outlook.com contacts

  • If you're a new user, you won't be able to connect your Weibo account to your new Outlook.com account.

  • If you've previously connected your Weibo account to Outlook.com, your Weibo contacts will no longer be updated with information from Weibo.

Outlook.com, Windows, Windows Phone and Office 365 calendar sync

Weibo events will no longer automatically sync to your Calendar on Outlook.com, Windows, Windows Phone and Office 365.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 People apps

Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 Calendar apps

The Calendar app on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 8 will no longer receive birthday or event information updates for Weibo contacts. As a result, birthday or event information for Weibo contacts shown in the Calendar app’s live tile may become outdated.

Windows 8 Photo Gallery and Movie Maker

  • You will no longer be able to publish photos or videos directly to Weibo. But photos and videos that have been previously published to Weibo via Photo Gallery will remain published.

  • As a workaround, you can use Movie Maker to publish your movie project to your computer using the 1080p, 720p, or 480p profiles that are already built into Movie Maker. Then you can directly upload the final movie files to Weibo using the Weibo website.

  • You can still use the Weibo website to upload photos to Weibo by selecting photos saved to your computer.

Windows 8 Photo apps

  • You will no longer be able to use Windows 8 photo apps to view photos and videos that have been previously published to Weibo.

  • You can still use the Weibo website to upload photos to Weibo by selecting photos saved to your computer.
