The Remaining Overtime Work fields show the amount of remaining scheduled overtime.

There are several categories of Remaining Overtime Work fields.

Data Type    Duration

Remaining Overtime Work (task field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    Remaining overtime work for a task is the sum of all remaining overtime work values for all the resources assigned to the task.

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Work field to a task sheet when you want to display or filter for remaining overtime work information.

Example    You want to see how much overtime is remaining on the "Write proposal" task. You add the Remaining Overtime Work field to the Task Sheet view.

Remaining Overtime Work (resource field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    Remaining overtime work for a resource is the sum of all remaining overtime work values for all of the resource's assignments.

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Work field to a resource sheet when you want to display or filter for remaining overtime work information.

Example    Your team has been working a lot of overtime in the past month. You want to see how much remaining overtime is scheduled to see whether you can justify hiring temporary staff for the rest of the project. You add the Remaining Overtime Work field to the Resource Sheet view to review the amount of remaining overtime scheduled for the resources.

Remaining Overtime Work (assignment field)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    When overtime work is first scheduled on an assignment and no overtime work has been reported, the Remaining Overtime Work field contains the same amount as the total scheduled Overtime Work field. Once actual overtime work is reported on this assignment, Microsoft Office Project calculates Remaining Overtime Work according to the following formula:

Remaining Overtime Work = Overtime Work - Actual Overtime Work

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Work field to the timephased portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you want to edit, display, or filter for remaining overtime work information for assignments. Edit the Remaining Overtime Work field for the assignment when you need to increase or reduce the amount of overtime that's needed to complete the task.

Example    The "Write proposal" task assigned to Chris is scheduled for eight hours of overtime. Chris has just informed you that four hours of additional overtime will be needed to complete this task. You add the Remaining Overtime Work field to the Task Usage view, and edit the field to add four more hours of remaining overtime work for this assignment.
