There are several ways to join a Lync Meeting using Lync for Windows Phone. Once you join, you should be able to hear the meeting audio, see the video of other participants (if they are using video), and view any meeting content being shared. You can also quickly rejoin a meeting or continue an earlier conversation with those who were in it. And you can even join a Lync Meeting without using Lync regularly or having a Lync account.

Join a Lync Meeting or audio or video conference call

  1. To join a Lync Meeting from the Lyncmeetings screen, select the meeting that you want to join, and then tap Join Meeting or tap the meeting hyperlink.

  2. Depending on how you set your VoIP call options, one of the following will happen:

  • You’ll be connected to audio or video using VoIP either by using Wi-Fi (if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network) or your cellular data plan.

  • Or, Lync will call you on your mobile phone and you’ll need to accept the Lync call in order to join the meeting. This happens only when your audio or video call options are set to ON and your Windows Phone isn’t connect to a Wi-Fi network.

For more information about VoIP call options, go to Adjust your data use settings.

When you join a meeting, by default your audio will be muted. For more information, go to What you can do in an audio or video meeting.

Join a Lync Meeting or conference call by phone

You can also dial in to the meeting from any phone by dialing the Join by Phone numbers listed in the meeting request. The dial-in phone number is listed towards the bottom of the request.

Note:  When you join a Lync Meeting by dialing in, your telephone number will be displayed in the meeting roster.

Waiting in the meeting lobby

The meeting lobby is an online waiting area. The meeting leader can control access to the meeting, or admit someone who doesn’t have the correct meeting credentials.

If the meeting leader has enabled the meeting lobby, you’ll need to wait until the meeting leader admits you to the meeting. If you’re waiting in the lobby, don’t move to another screen, because your request to join the meeting will be cancelled if you do.

Join a Lync Meeting from your Windows Phone even if you aren’t a Lync user or aren’t signed in to Lync

You can join a Lync Meeting from your Windows Phone even if you don’t have a Lync account. Here’s how:

  1. Install Lync 2013 (from the App store for Windows Phone) in advance of the meeting. (If you don’t install Lync beforehand, you’ll be prompted to install it when you try to join the meeting.)

  2. Don’t sign in to Lync.

  3. When you tap the meeting link on your mobile device, you’ll get a Lync prompt to join the meeting.

  4. Tap Sign in as a guest.

Once you enter your name, you’ll be admitted to the conversation window for the meeting (or into the Lobby if the meeting leader has decided to use that feature).

Here are some things you can and can’t do as a meeting guest if you’re a non-Lync user:

You can…

  • open the Meeting settings screen and change your settings for using Wi-Fi with video and meeting content, and for Text telephone (TTY) mode.

  • view the meeting roster and see names and titles of the other participants.

  • be promoted to presenter and have the same presenter capabilities from the roster as others.

You cannot…

  • navigate to any Lync screens other than the Meeting conversation screen and the Meeting settings screen.

  • open a contact card from the roster.

  • see contact photos in the roster or active speaker area.

Rejoin a meeting

If you have to leave a Lync Meeting temporarily, or get disconnected for any reason, you can rejoin it by clicking the Rejoin button in the notification message or the conversations screen.

Note:  If you’re not in the Lync app when you get disconnected, you may see a notification that you were disconnected, but you will need to return to the Lync app to click Rejoin.

Continue a conversation

To pick up a conversation where you left off:

  1. On the Lync conversations screen, scroll down the list until you find the conversation you want to continue, and tap the listing for that conversation.

  2. Tap the text box at bottom of the screen to begin typing a message, or tap the phone icon to call one of the participants. Lync will send a new invite to everyone who was in the original conversation and will include the history of the conversation in the message.
