Hot Wheels

The Hot Wheels project can be found in the Measuring Speed to Understand Forces and Motion lesson plan. This lesson plan explores speed, acceleration, and force. When building the Hot Wheels project, students may run into some problems. Here are some troubleshooting tips to help them get unstuck:

Problem - Why isn’t my data coming in?

Solution - Your data wires cannot be "Daisy chained." There must be a continuous signal wire from each of your timing gates to the Arduino port.

  • Make sure that your microcontroller is flashed using the correct code.

  • Make sure that you're using the correct Excel Workbook—each Hacking STEM project comes with its own customized workbook.

Problem - One of my gates isn’t working.

Solution - Check to see if your strand wire is pointed down and making a good connection with the paper clip car spoiler.
