You can create a shared folder directly in Windows Explorer or in the SharePoint Workspace Launchbar. You can also create a shared folder from in a folder that is already being synchronized.

Creating a shared folder in Windows Explorer

  1. Right-click the folder you want to synchronize in a shared folder, click Folder Synchronization, and then click Start Synchronizing.

  2. Click Yes at the confirmation prompt.

    A new window opens with a Folder Synchronization pane. You can proceed to invite other people to the shared folder and set other options in the File and Folder Tasks pane.

Creating a shared folder in the Launchbar

  1. On the Home tab, click New, and then click Shared Folder.

  2. Enter a name for the shared folder, and click OK.

    If you plan to synchronize an existing folder, you can accept the default name for now because the shared folder name will simply adopt the original folder name.

  3. Select an option for creating or selecting the folder to be synchronized, and click OK.

  4. If prompted, select a folder location (either for creating a new folder or for using an existing folder), and click OK.

    A new window opens with a Folder Synchronization pane. You can proceed to invite other people to the shared folder and set other options in the File and Folder Tasks pane.

About creating a shared folder in a folder that is already being synchronized

SharePoint Workspace allows you to create a shared folder in a folder that is already being synchronized . Typically, you might do this if you want to share the contents of a specific subfolder in a shared folder with a different set of people.

SharePoint Workspace posts a message when you start this activity in order to remind you that the selected folder is already being synchronized. It is important to keep this in mind for the following reason: Members have access to ALL data files in a shared folder, even if those files are added or updated in a shared folder in which they are not members.
