Add a border to a picture in Word for Mac

When you add a border to some text or add a border to a page, you can really make your content stand out. The same goes with the pictures in your documents. Just how plain or fancy you want to make those borders is up to you.

The Picture Styles gallery offers many preset styles that make it easy for you to add a special sort of border with one click.

  1. Click the image to select it.

  2. Click the Picture Format tab.

  3. In the Picture Borders gallery, click the border style you want. To see all the styles, click the left and right arrows to move around the gallery.

Customize your picture’s border

If you’d rather completely customize your border, you can choose the border color, the border width, and the type of line you’d like to use.

  1. Click the image to select it.

  2. On the Picture Format tab, click the arrow next to Picture Border.

  3. Click the color you want, or click More Outline Colors to see more choices.

    Click Weight to choose the width of your border.

    To use a dashed or dotted line, click Dashes, and then choose a line style.

How you choose to apply a border to your picture is up to you; you can change it at any time and you can always remove the border from the picture entirely.
