Word can't find the linked template

Cause: The template was moved.

Solution:    Update the link to the template's location.

  1. On the View menu, click Draft, Web Layout, Outline, or Print Layout.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.

  3. Click Attach.

  4. Locate the template that you want to link to, and then click Open.

    Tip: User-created templates are usually located in /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/My Templates, whereas the Normal template (Normal.dotm) is located in /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates. If you are using Mac OS X 7 (Lion), the Library folder is hidden by default. To show the Library folder, in the Finder, click the Go menu, and then hold down OPTION .

Cause: The template is missing.

Solution:    Link to a different template.

  1. On the View menu, click Draft, Web Layout, Outline, or Print Layout.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.

  3. Click Attach.

  4. Locate the template that you want to link to, and then click Open.
