Video: Omit the page number from the first page

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

Sometimes you want to leave the page number off of the first page of a document.

For example, when the title is prominent on a page, it’s obvious that the page is Page 1, and leaving the page number off looks cleaner. In this case, you would continue numbering with 2 on the second page.

In other situations—for example, if you have a cover page—you might want to leave the page number off the first page, and also to begin numbering the next page, where the content really starts, as Page 1.

This procedure assumes that your document already includes page numbers. For information about how to add page numbers to your document, see Video: Add page numbers to a document.
