Use the contact card

The contact card displays detailed information about people and provides several ways of communicating with someone. For example, you can send an instant message, start a call, or send an email message directly from someone’s contact card.

Start an IM with a contact

You can have instant messaging (IM) conversations with one or more contacts. To send an instant message to one person, do the following:

  1. Tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the person’s name, and then tap the IM icon to send an instant message.

Call a contact

  1. To call someone in your Contacts list, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name and then select the number you want to call.

  3. When the call is placed, you’ll first need to accept the Lync call on your mobile phone in order to make the outgoing call.

View a contact’s presence status

Microsoft Lync 2010 communications software automatically sets your presence based on your activity or Microsoft Outlook Calendar.

  1. To view someone’s presence status, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, their presence status will be displayed under their name.

View a contact’s personal note

A contact’s personal note will appear with their contact card.

  1. To view a contact’s personal note, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and their personal note will be displayed on the Card screen.

View a contact’s office location

  1. To view a contact’s location, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the person you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and then on the Card screen scroll down to the office section to view their location.

View a contact’s photo

  • To view a contact’s photo, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box with the contact’s photo.

Send an email to a contact

  1. To view a contact’s photo, tap Contacts, and from the Lync tab, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and then tap the email icon to send an email.
