Use VoiceOver for online meetings in Skype for Business on iPhone and iPad

With Skype for Business, you can use VoiceOver—the screen reader built in to iOS—to join and exit online meetings.

Notes: 

  • If you don’t already have it, download and install the Skype for Business app from the App Store.

  • This topic assumes that you are using VoiceOver, the screen reader built in to iOS. To learn more about using VoiceOver, refer to Get started using VoiceOver with Skype for Business on iPhone and iPad.

  • The user interface (UI) elements you see in Skype for Business vary by meeting type.

In this topic

Join a meeting

  1. Start the Skype for Business app and sign in.

    Tip:  For sign-in help, refer to, Get started using VoiceOver with Skype for Business on iPhone and iPad.

  2. Move the focus to the Meetings button (in the upper left corner of the screen). You hear “Meetings, Button.” Double-tap it. As the Meetings screen opens and the focus moves to the Dismiss button, you hear “Meetings, Dismiss button.”

  3. Move the focus to the meeting that you want to join. You hear the subject and start time for the meeting, followed by “Skype meeting.” Double-tap the meeting. As the Meeting screen for that meeting opens and the focus moves to the Back button, you hear “Meeting, Back button.” The UI contains nine main levels of elements that you can select (in the following order from top to bottom):

    • Back button, Meeting heading, Share Invite button

    • Subject of the meeting

    • Date of the meeting

    • Start and end time for the meeting

    • Type of meeting: Skype meeting

    • Join Meeting button

    • Name of the meeting organizer

    • Names of invitees

    • Notes for the meeting

    Tip: If a meeting is not a Skype meeting, the Join Meeting button is not included.

  4. To select the Join Meeting button, tap it. You hear “Join meeting, Button.” Double-tap the Join Meeting button. As you join the meeting, you hear “Join, Back button, Business would like to access the microphone.” Tap, and then double-tap the OK button (in the middle of the screen). You hear “Skype for Business, Back button.” The UI contains four main levels of elements that you can select (in the following order from top to bottom):

    • Back button, drop-down menu for meeting, Show Chat button

    • Video button, Mute button, Speaker button

    • Add button, Keypad button, More button

    • Hang up button

Exit a meeting

To exit a meeting, move the focus to the Hang up button and tap it. You hear “Hang up button.” Double-tap it. You hear “Hang up,” followed by the date and time. The focus moves back to the meeting screen for the meeting.
