Sort contacts by first name

By default, Outlook displays your list of contacts alphabetically by last name. You can also sort the list by first name.

Do any of the following:

Sort by first name in the contacts list

  1. At the bottom of the navigation pane, click Contacts  Contacts view button .

  2. On the Organize tab, click Arrange By, and then click First Name.

Change your preference for sorting results in Contacts Search

To sort contacts by first name in the Contacts Search window, you can change the setting in Outlook preferences.

The following illustration shows the Contacts Search window.

  1. On the Outlook menu, click Preferences.

  2. Under Other, click Contacts.

  3. Under Contacts search, on the In the Contacts Search pane, sort by pop-up menu, click First Name.

    Tips: 

    • To open Contacts Search from Mail, Calendar, or Contacts view, on the Home tab, click Contacts Search. Contacts Search

    • You can also open Contacts Search by pressing COMMAND + 0 (zero).
