Set or change the default printer

Do you have a favorite printer? Is Word not choosing it for you automatically? Use Control Panel to tell your computer that you want to pick your own default printer.

  1. Click Start > Control Panel, or in Windows 8, press the Windows key, type control panel, and then press Enter.

  2. Under Hardware and Sound, click View devices and printers.

This step assumes that the Control Panel is set up to view by Category. If it is set up to view by Icons, just click Devices and Printers.

  1. A green check mark shows which printer your computer is using.
