Description    The Request/Demand field provides choices for how resources are to be assigned when using the Resource Substitution Wizard. You can request that a specific resource be used if not overallocated, require that only a specific resource be used, or use any qualified resource that results in the shortest schedule.

Best Uses    Add the Request/Demand field to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you want to display or change the resource substitution type for an assignment. The Request setting indicates that the specified resource should be used unless the resource is overallocated. The Demand setting indicates that the specified resource must be used and not substituted. The blank setting, which is the default, indicates that any qualified resource can be assigned to the task. This resource is the one that results in the shortest schedule across all projects.

Example    You assign a resource to a task. You know that this resource is the only one capable of performing the task. To keep this resource assignment when you run the Resource Substitution Wizard, you select Demand in the Request/Demand field for the assignment.

Remarks    This field is also available in the Assign Resources dialog box, the Resources tab in the Task Information dialog box, and the General tab in the Assignment Information dialog box.

The Request/Demand field is disabled for generic resources.
