PowerPoint 2016 for Mac – Release notes for Insider Fast builds

November 16, 2017 release

Version: 16.8 (Build 171114)

Known Issues:

  • Spellcheck respects language of keyboard, not language of document

  • Comments not working well in offline environments

  • Intermittent difficulty connecting to SharePoint with mixed authentication

Known Issues:

  • Spellcheck respects language of keyboard, not language of document

Though there are no new features in this particular release, version 16.6 (Build 171002) included several exciting new features such as real time collaboration, QuickStarter, Trim Media UI and Designer improvements. See October 2, 2017 release notes for more information.

  • Fixed crash when clicking on Design Ideas button

  • Fixed problems with custom fonts and font selection encountered in last release

New + Improved Features:

  • Laser pointer in Slide Show is now on Mac! Turn your mouse into a laser pointer to draw attention to a particular part of your slide (as seen in screenshot below)

Version 16.6 (Build 171002) included several exciting new features such as real time collaboration, QuickStarter, Trim Media UI and Designer improvements. See October 2, 2017 release notes for more information.

Recent Fixes:

  • Fixed bugs related to font picker

  • Fixed slow performance when working with tables editing 

Known Issues:

  • [ODP] ODP files do not always save correctly

  • [Accessibility] VoiceOver can be unstable, especially when used with tables or for editing notes pane

  • [Paste from OneNote] Team is actively investigating a crash related to pasting an image from OneNote

  • [Font picker] Font picker is working inconsistently, especially with custom fonts

  • [ODP] ODP files do not always save correctly

  • [Accessibility] VoiceOver can be unstable, especially when used with tables or for editing notes pane

  • Keyboard shortcuts for edit commands work again, broken in version 16.7 (build 171008)

  • Printing when on OS High Sierra no longer causes crash

  • Spell check language can now be changed from different than keyboard language

  • Custom fonts are now supported

  • Fixed AutoSave prompt bug

  • [ODP] ODP files do not always save correctly

  • [Accessibility] VoiceOver can be unstable, especially when used with tables or for editing notes pane

  • Fixed bug that was causing cursor to disappear

  • Editing Excel charts from within PowerPoint no longer crashes application

Known Issues:

  • [Keyboard] Keyboard shortcuts for edit commands do not work in non-English languages

  • [Fonts] Downloaded custom fonts do not work

  • [Printing] For OS High Sierra, Printing causes PowerPoint to crash

  • [AutoSave] When user exits a cloud file, they will be prompted to save their document even though AutoSave is on

  • [ODP] ODP files do not always save correctly 

  • [Spell check] Can not change spell check to a language different than keyboard language

  • [Accessibility] VoiceOver can be unstable, especially when used with tables or for editing the notes pane 

Version: 16.6 (build 171001)

New and Improved:

  • Real Time Collaboration - Mac PowerPoint now has the same collaboration features found in Windows PowerPoint making it easier than ever to work on an online presentation at the same time as your colleagues. Note: to collaborate, presentations must be stored on OneDrive or SharePoint.[available for O365 subscribers only]

    • See where others are working in your shared presentation and view changes live as they happen with real time presence and real time typing.

    • Document changes with revision tracking to keep track of all edits made to the presentation by you and other contributors.

    • Don’t worry about losing your work! Any changes made to the presentation will save automatically in real time.

  • QuickStarter –  PowerPoint QuickStarter is now on Mac! Powered by the Bing Knowledge graph,  QuickStarter reinvents the deck creation process by building a presentation outline to help you get started researching a topic of your choosing. [available for O365 subscribers only]

  • Trim Media UI – Trim Media is now available for Mac PowerPoint! Trim the unwanted content from the beginning and/or end of inserted audio and video clips. [available for O365 subscribers only]

  • Designer improvements –  PowerPoint Designer on Mac now supports additional triggers and layouts – matching the full functionality found in PowerPoint Designer on Windows. [available for O365 subscribers only]

Known Issues:

  • Using VoiceOver with PowerPoint can be unstable

    • Editing notes pane using VoiceOver may cause PowerPoint to crash

    • VoiceOver does not work well with tables

  • Saving ODP files behaves inconsistently 

  • Custom fonts do not work; default font (Kammada MN) is used instead 

  • For OS High Sierra, Printing causes PowerPoint to crash

  • Editing Excel charts may crash PowerPoint 

  • Cannot change spell check to different language than keyboard
