Outlook.com won't let me send an email

To help fight spam and reduce the amount of junk email you get, Outlook.com puts limits on the volume and type of email that you can send. If you're having problems sending mail, here are the most common resolutions.

You've exceeded the daily message limit

To help deter spammers, Outlook.com limits the number of messages that can be sent in any one day. The daily limit is lower on mobile devices than on a computer. If you receive a message that you've reached the daily message limit, you can save your email as a draft and send it the next day. You can also Increase your message limits.

  • On a mobile device, tap to close the message. You'll receive a prompt asking you if you want to save or delete the message. Choose Save. You can then to go Outlook.com on a computer, open the draft, and send it.

  • On a computer, choose Save draft to save the message and send it the next day.

You've added too many recipients to one email

Outlook.com limits the number of recipients you can add to any one email message. If you exceed the limit, the error will let you know how many recipients you can add to your message. Remove some recipients and then try sending again. You can also Increase your message limits.

Your content triggered junk email filters

Outlook.com blocks the sending of messages when the content looks like junk email to the Outlook.com junk filters. Occasionally, legitimate email can be marked as junk. If your message is blocked, try changing the content of your message and then attempt to send it again. You can also Increase your message limits.

Increase your message limits

If you verify your account, your sending limits increase.

  1. On the Add a phone webpage, choose your country code, enter your mobile number, and then choose Send code.

Notes: Your phone must be able to receive text messages.

Don't close the webpage. You'll need to enter the received code on the same page within ten minutes.

  2. Enter the code from the text message on the webpage and choose Submit.
