Manage your aliases in Outlook.com Premium

An account alias is an email address or phone number that you use to sign in to your Microsoft account. You can have multiple aliases, and use any of them with Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive, Office, Xbox, Windows, and more.

Note: The Outlook.com Premium standalone offering was closed to new subscribers in October 2017. Many of the benefits in the standalone subscription are now included with subscriptions to Office 365 Home and Office 365 Personal. To learn more, see Outlook.com Premium closed to new subscribers.

You can only have one custom domain per Outlook.com account. But you can create up to ten (10) aliases on your Microsoft account. An alias is an additional email address that uses the same mailbox, contact list, and account settings as the primary alias. You can sign in to your account with any alias using the same password that is associated with your Microsoft account.

Important:

  • You must add and remove custom email aliases on the Outlook.com Premium dashboard.

  • You can create up to five (5) aliases using your custom domain email address. For example, if you set jane@contoso.com as your first alias, then you can create jane_sales@contoso.com, jane_support@contoso.com, jane_training@contoso.com and jane_junk@contoso.com as additional aliases.

To add an alias:

  1. On the Outlook.com Premium dashboard, select Advanced Settings > Manage email aliases.

  2. Select Add an alias.

To remove an alias:

  1. On the Outlook.com Premium dashboard, select Advanced Settings > Manage email aliases.

  2. Select the arrow next to email aliases used, select the alias you want to remove, and select Delete The Remove icon .

You can have a total of ten (10) aliases per email account and can change your aliases up to ten (10) times per calendar year. If you already have 10 Outlook.com aliases, you can’t add a custom email address as an alias. Delete one of your Outlook.com aliases to add your custom email address as an Outlook.com alias.

Existing email addresses ending in @hotmail.com, @live.com, @msn.com, and @outlook.com can’t be added as aliases. You can create a new Outlook.com email address and use it as an alias, or you can use your new (or existing) email address from another provider such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail if you haven’t previously used the email address to create a Microsoft account.

If you try to remove an alias that is set as your primary alias or default “From” address, you will receive an error message. You'll need to set up an alternate email address as your primary alias before removing the alias that's currently your primary alias or default “From” address.
