Introducing Skype for Business

Before you get started...

You may already have Skype for Business installed on your Windows computer. Do a quick check to see—following the instructions for your operating system.

Windows 7: Click Start, then Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 2016. Then click All Programs and look for Skype for Business 2016.

Windows 10 or Windows 8: Click Start, then type “Skype for Business 2016”.

If you found it, you’re ready to go. If not, you'll need to Install Skype for Business. This link also tells you how to install Skype for Business on other platforms and on your mobile devices.

Now, log into Skype for Business

  • Enter your Office 365 user ID and password, then click Sign in. (Click the Save my password checkbox if you want Skype for Business to save your password so you don't have to enter it next time--unless you change it.)

    If you don't know your user ID or password, contact your organization's technical support.

Skype for Business lets you quickly connect with others across your company or around the world.

It looks and feels like Skype, but has added productivity features that help run your business efficiently, like seeing when someone is available, in a meeting, or presenting, providing industrial strength security for calls, or broadcasting a meeting online to a large audience.

In the main window, find contacts, make voice or video calls, or just hover over the person you want to connect with.

Then select IM, call, video chat, or schedule a meeting to start a conversation.

Once you're in a chat, you can pull in other people and add audio.

You can also share your screen, and have others take control to help out.

Skype for Business works with your other Office programs, so you can chat, call, or join a meeting with a click.

Online meetings are created just like regular ones in Outlook.

Call-in information and links are added to the invite automatically.

When it's time to meet, click on the link in your email.

Your contacts can still attend even if they don't have Skype for Business.

Once you're in a meeting, click More Options to see additional features, including recording in full HD.

Skype for Business helps you and your contacts stay in touch and be productive across the Office 365 apps.
