Insert shapes in OneNote 2016 for Mac

OneNote for Mac provides predefined shapes that you can insert into your notes. You can quickly draw schemes, graphs, or even flowcharts to improve your notes. OneNote also allows you to easily edit the shapes, so you can change the size, position, or style of the inserted shape.

Insert a shape

  1. On Insert tab, click a shape on the ribbon.

    Change weight of line
  2. Click and drag on your note to draw the shape.

Resize a shape

  1. To select a shape, click a shape line.

  2. To increase or decrease the size, drag a sizing handle away from or toward the center.

Tips: 

  • If you have a polygon, circular, or graph shape and you want to reshape it freely without maintaining the object's proportions, press and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard while you drag a corner sizing handle.

  • To move a shape to where you want it, simply select the shape and drag it.

Flip or rotate a shape

  1. To select the shape, click a shape line.

  2. On the Shape Format tab, click Rotate and select how you want to change your shape.

Format a shape

  1. To select the shape, click a shape line.

  2. On the Shape Format tab, do one of the following:

    • To change the line color, click the arrow next to the Line Color button and click the color you want.

      Choose a color
    • To change the weight of the line, select another line weight from the ribbon. To view more options, click the arrow on the right.

Remove a shape

  1. To select the shape, click a shape line.

  2. On the Shape Format tab, click Delete .
