Import a Microsoft Excel worksheet or chart

Imported data can be up to 4,000 rows long by 4,000 columns wide, but no more than 255 data series can be displayed in the chart.

If you select the Overwrite existing cells check box, the imported data replaces all existing data on the datasheet.

  1. Switch to the datasheet.


  2. If you are importing a Microsoft Excel worksheet and you want the imported data to begin at a cell other than the upper-left cell on the datasheet, select the cell.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Import File.

  4. In the Look in box, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file.

    To open a file created in another program, click the file format you want in the Files of type box. You can also type the file name extension in the File name box; for example, type *.xls to find Microsoft Excel files. In the folder list, double-click folders until you open the folder that contains the file you want.

  5. Double-click the file you want to import.

  6. If you selected a Microsoft Excel workbook created with version 5.0 or later, select the sheet you want to import. You can import only one sheet.

    To import all the data on the worksheet, click Entire sheet under Import.

    To import part of the data, click Range, and then type the range of data you want. For example, to import cells A1 through B5, type A1:B5 in the Range box.

    If you selected a cell in step 2, clear the Overwrite existing cells check box.
