Go to the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center

The Office 365 Security & Compliance Center is your one-stop portal for protecting your data in Office 365. Most smaller businesses won't need to use the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center. It's here for businesses who have data protection or compliance needs, or want to audit user activity in their organization. Use the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center to manage compliance for all of your organization’s data across Office 365. You can manage eDiscovery searches and holds, manage access for mobiles devices, and more. In this article, you can find out how to get to the Security & Compliance Center, and find out where to learn more.

Get to the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center

Before you can use the Security & Compliance Center, you need the right permissions. For more information, see Give users access to the Security & Compliance Center.

Here's the most direct way to get to the Security & Compliance Center:

  1. Go to https://protection.office.com.

  2. Sign in to Office 365 using the credentials for an administrator account in your Office 365 organization.

Learn your way around the Security & Compliance Center

The fastest way to get to know the new Security & Compliance Center is to select Take a tour. The tour introduces all the options in the navigation pane so you can get started quickly. On the home page you can also see high-level summaries about all the aspects of Office 365 that the Security & Compliance Center helps you take care of.

The navigation pane on the left of the Security & Compliance Center home page gives you easy access to all the pages in the Security & Compliance Center. For example, expand Permissions and you’ll see all the permissions granted to people in your organization so they can complete compliance tasks. Select options on the navigation pane to see other familiar tasks.

Permissions in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center: To access the Security & Compliance Center and manage any of its security or compliance features, users need to be either an Office 365 global administrator or a member of one or more Security & Compliance Center role groups.

Search for content and review user activity. Use eDiscovery to manage cases and Supervisory review to define policies that help you capture communication for review.

Search and investigation in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center

Content search: Use the content search feature to search mailboxes, public folders, SharePoint Onlinesites, and OneDrive for Business locations in your Office 365 organization.

Audit log search: Use the audit log search feature to view user and admin activity in your Office 365 organization.

eDiscovery: Use the eDiscovery page to control who can create, access, and manage Content Searches in your Office 365 organization.

If your organization has an Office 365 E5 subscription, you can also use the eDiscovery page to access Advanced eDiscovery, which provides capabilities that help you analyze large, unstructured data sets and reduce the amount of data that's most relevant to a legal case. Supervisory review: Use a supervisory review policy to determine who in your organization will have their communication reviewed and who will perform those reviews.

Service assurance in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center

Dashboard: Use the dashboard to see what's new in Service assurance resources and to access handy links to add users and get the Service assurance Onboarding Guide.

Compliance reports: Use service compliance reports to review audit assessments performed by third-party independent auditors of Office 365 Service Delivery Operations.

Trust documents: Use white papers, FAQs, risk management reports, and other Microsoft Confidential resources that are made available to you under non-disclosure agreement for your review and risk assessments.

Settings: Choose the region and industry settings that are appropriate for your organization so that Microsoft can provide you with relevant service assurance resources.

Also, be sure to check into remote Windows PowerShell, which is the administrative interface that enables you to manage your Security & Compliance Center from the command line. For example, you can use remote PowerShell to perform Compliance Searches and configure access to the Security & Compliance Center.
