Use this tab to define limits on contact searches by end users who are adding new individuals to their contact lists.
These settings apply to search queries performed by all Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) clients and servers in an Active Directory forest. Reasonable limits based on your particular infrastructure help to ensure optimum throughput and performance.
Maximum number of rows returned to the client
The maximum number of results that the server returns to a client in response to a contact query, even if this value is fewer than the number of contacts that match the query. Valid values are 1 through 1000. The default is 20.
Number of rows requested by the server
The number of results that are requested by the server in a single query. This value must be equal to or greater than the value specified in Maximum number of rows returned to the client. The maximum value is 3000; the default is 200.
Maximum number of outstanding requests per server
The maximum number of pending requests that a server will handle before it declines additional search requests. The maximum value is 500. The default is 80.

When a user searches for a contact using Microsoft Office Communicator, Communicator forwards the request to the Front End Server, which queries Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) for the latest information. Because this operation increases network traffic, administrators have the ability to place limits on such requests.
The limits defined on this tab do not apply to searches for existing contacts because in this case Communicator queries its own internal database. This internal database is not queried when adding a new contact because it is refreshed by Address Book Service once a day and therefore can be up to 24 hours out of date at any given moment.
