Data Type    Yes/No

Entry Type    Calculated or Entered

Description    Certain resources are identified as generic resources. This allows them to be identified by skill rather than by name. The Generic field indicates whether a resource is generic or not.

How Calculated    For generic resources, the Generic field is set to Yes. Otherwise, this field is set to No.

Best Uses    Add the Generic field to a resource view when you want to review, filter for, or set generic resources. This is especially useful when you're in the process of finding actual resources to replace the generic ones.

Example    In your project are several generic resources: Mechanical Engineer, Carpenter, and Painter. You want to filter for these generic resources so you can focus on finding actual resources. You add the Generic field to the Resource Sheet, and then filter on the Generic field having a value of Yes.

Remarks    Use the Resource Substitution Wizard to automatically replace generic resources with actual resources from the enterprise resource pool.

You can also specify non-enterprise resources as generic. You can add the Generic field and set it to Yes for generic resources or in the Resource Information dialog box, select the Generic check box on the General tab.
