Fix sync issues in OneNote for iOS or Android

There are a few steps you can follow to avoid OneNote sync issues on a mobile device:

  • Check and make sure OneNote is running in the foreground.

  • Logout and log back in to OneNote to reset your credentials and avoid authentication problems.

  • Force a OneNote to sync

Here's how you can reset your credentials and force a sync on iOS or Android devices:

Reset credentials

  1. Open OneNote, tap the < icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, and tap the gear icon next to the account name and email address.

  2. On the Settings screen, under Account, tap the account name.

  3. Tap the account name again and then choose Remove Account.

  4. Accept the notification that appears to confirm signing out.

  5. Double tap the device's home button, and swipe up on the OneNote app to close it .

  6. Start OneNote and sign in to your account.

Force Sync

  • There are no options to force sync a notebook in OneNote for iPad or iPhone.

Reset credentials

  1. Open OneNote, tap the menu in the upper-right corner of the screen, and choose Settings.

  2. Tap Account.

  3. Tap Sign Out, and then click OK.

  4. Tap the recent apps button on the bottom of the screen (the one next to your home button), find the OneNote app and swipe it sideways to close it.

  5. Start OneNote and sign in to your account.

Force Sync

  1. In OneNote, find the notebook that's experiencing the sync issues.

  2. Tap the menu in the upper-right corner of the screen, and choose Sync all.

  3. Leave the device on until the sync is done. You may have to leave the device on overnight, especially in the case of very large notebooks or first time syncs.
