Delete or inactivate an account

If an account is not a system account and does not have an opening balance or transactions associated with it, you can delete it. You cannot delete a system account or an account to which you have posted transactions, including the opening balance, but you can change its status to inactive.

Delete an account

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Company.

  2. Under Find, click Chart of Accounts.

  3. Select the nominal account that you want to delete.

  4. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

  5. To confirm, click Yes.

Make an account inactive

An inactive account does not appear in dialog boxes, forms or wizards, but you can still post entries to the account. You can view inactive accounts and open their nominal activity by filtering the Chart of Accounts.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Company.

  2. Under Find, click Chart of Accounts.

  3. Select the nominal account that you want to make inactive.

  4. On the Edit menu, click Make Inactive.
