Communicating with Users of Another Organization

If your administrator has made public IM connectivity (PIC) available on your network, you can communicate with IM users on MSN®, Windows Live™, and Yahoo!® instant messaging programs. Similarly, if your administrator has enabled federation with another organization, you can communicate with IM users inside that organization.

There are some limitations as to how you can use Communicator Mobile with users of another organization:

  • You can send IM messages and view presence information only. Phone calls are not supported.

  • You can view the presence status of only those users of another organization who are in your Contact List.

  • You cannot search for contacts that use a public IM service provider or are members of another organization. You can only communicate with or add a user of another organization to your Contact List by using the user's e-mail address.

    Notes:

    • If you have trouble connecting with users of MSN or Yahoo!, contact your system administrator to verify that your network is configured for public IM connectivity.

    • If you have trouble connecting with members of another organization, contact your system administrator to verify that your network is configured for federation.
