Important: To complete this procedure, you must first turn on Chinese or Japanese language features. For more information, see Turn on Chinese language features or Turn on Japanese language features (U.S. version only).

  1. Select the characters that you want to combine.

  2. On the Home tab, under Paragraph, click Asian Layout  Home tab, Paragraph group, Asian Layout (JPN), and then click Combine Characters.

  3. In the Font and Size boxes, specify the font and font size that you want.

    Tip: To clear the combined character formatting for Japanese characters, select the combined characters, and then on the Home tab, under Paragraph, click Asian Layout  Home tab, Paragraph group, Asian Layout (JPN), click Combine Characters, and then click Remove.
