Getting started with apps and services

From your desktop or web app, there are a bunch of ways to bring your favorite apps and services into Microsoft Teams. You can add connectors to channels, chat with bots, and add content and services directly to your tabs. For more information, see the desktop article How do I bring my apps, services, and integrations into Microsoft Teams?.

If you're a team owner, you can use your desktop or web app to add a team to an existing Office 365 group. Navigate to the teams gallery by clicking on Add a team at the bottom of your teams list. Once you're there, select the Create a team option. You'll see a link that will take you to a list of all the Office 365 groups that you're currently able to add a team to. From there, all you have to do is select the group you want, and add your team! You'll end up in the General channel for the team you decided to add to your Office 365 group.

Creating teams on mobile is coming soon.

There's no way to change the default SharePoint site for your team on Microsoft Teams. But you can still add any SharePoint document library as a new tab in a channel on your desktop or web app. To do that, click + at the top of the channel. This will open up the tab gallery. Once you're there, select SharePoint. You'll be able to add a document library from relevant sites, or simply copy and paste a link to a SharePoint site or folder and then choose the document library you want to add.

Using Bots

Bots are automated programs that are set up to respond to queries or give updates and notifications about things you find interesting or want to stay informed about. Bots aren't people, but in Microsoft Teams, you can chat with them just as if they were! Bots like T-Bot are designed to chat one-on-one, so they’re at the ready whenever you have questions about Microsoft Teams, or if you need help with task management, scheduling, and polling. Other bots can be added to your teams in Microsoft Teams so they'll be able to post messages in channels. That way, they can keep your entire team up-to-date.

To see the bots that have been added to a team, go to your desktop or web app and click the more icon next to the team name. Then select View team and the Apps tab. You'll see a list of the bots that have been added to that team. You can also click Discover apps at the top right corner of your team view to see the bots that are available in Microsoft Teams.

And if you're handy with code, you can create your own custom bot! For more information, go to https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/botscreate.

You can't currently add bots to Teams from the mobile app.

Looking for a bot? Go to https://aka.ms/teamsbotgallery to find what you need.

There’s no way to bring a bot into a group conversation just yet.

Ever wanted a bot of your very own? We thought you might. For more information, see https://aka.ms/teamsbotsplatform to create your own customized bots.

T-Bot can help you learn how to use Microsoft Teams. On your mobile device, tap Chat and select T-Bot. Type in a question, a keyword, or a phrase into the chat.

To help you with using Microsoft Teams, T-Bot may send you some unprompted tips and tricks. If it turns out that you'd rather not receive tips and tricks in the future, you can always disable them. On your desktop or web app, go to your chat list and either right-click on your chat with T-Bot or click the more icon next to the chat. That will open up a menu that gives you the option to Disable tips and tricks. Once you select that option, T-Bot will only talk to you if you send it a question or comment! (There's currently no way to disable T-Bot entirely.) If you ever want to turn tips and tricks back on, go to the same menu and select Enable tips and tricks.

Using tabs

Tabs are a great way to integrate tools and services into a channel. In a tab, you can connect to other Microsoft services like Excel and SharePoint and third-party apps and services like Asana or YouTube.

Tap a team channel to see the conversations and tabs. Then tap Tabs to see the what's available. For more information, see Using tabs.

Go to the desktop or web app to add a tab to a channel. For more information, see the desktop article Using tabs.

If the Stream tab has been set up in a channel on the desktop or web app, you can view Stream videos on your iOS and Android device. For more info, check out https://stream.microsoft.com.

Using connectors

We have connectors that let you integrate apps and services right into the conversation.

You can see connector messages in the mobile app, but you can only add them in the desktop or web app. For more information see the desktop help topics on Using connectors.

You can add connectors in the desktop or web app. To learn more, see the desktop help topics on Using connectors.

Using OneNote

Currently there's no way to add existing OneNote notebooks automatically. To do that, copy content from the existing OneNote into the Teams OneNote. For more information, see the desktop article How do I add a OneNote notebook.

You can't access your personal OneNote notebook inside Microsoft Teams right now.

You can open your notebooks from the OneNote app directly in OneDrive for Business. To open OneNote in Teams , go to Tabs from a team channel and tap OneNote.

Using Outlook and SharePoint

When you create a team in Microsoft Teams, you also get the things that come with Office 365 groups, like a group inbox and calendar, SharePoint site, and OneNote. So, a corresponding group will show up in products like Outlook for team you create.

On iOS and Android, tap Meetings to see the weekly calendar for all your meetings that have been scheduled from Microsoft Teams, Outlook, or Exchange.

Unfortunately, you can’t move content from an existing OneNote or SharePoint site to your Microsoft Teams mobile app at this time.
