Application Host

In the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 console tree, you can right-click an individual application server name (that is, FQDN) to do the following:

  • Start all stopped applications.

  • Stop all started applications.

  • Activate an application.

  • Deactivate the application server using the Deactivation Wizard.

The application host service starts and stops automatically when at least one application that is hosted on the server is started or when all applications are stopped.

In the results pane, you can do the following:

  • Use the Applications tab to view the status of general settings configured for individual servers, including the certificate settings, and to see if the application host service is running.

  • Use the Event Log tab to configure event log filtering and to view event records.

  • Use the Performance tab to view the performance of the server.

  • Use the Resources tab to access documentation and other resources for Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

In Available Tasks in the action pane, you can do the following:

  • Use Deactivate to start the Deactivation Wizard for the application server.

When you add a Front End Server to a pool or install a Standard Edition server, the application server that hosts unified communications applications is automatically activated and all unified communications applications are installed on the server. Applications are typically activated during pool configuration. Settings that are specific to applications are configured at the pool level after the initial Office Communications Server deployment and used by all instances of the application in the pool. As a result, all Front End Servers in a pool are identical with regard to the applications installed, configured, and activated.
