What this means

What happens if you change this setting…

Require Wi-Fi for VoIP

OFF

Skype for Business (Lync) will try to use Wi-Fi to make Skype for Business (Lync) calls, but when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi, Skype for Business (Lync) will use your cellular data connection.

…to ON: If you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, Skype for Business (Lync) will try to use Wi-Fi for calls. If you’re not connected to Wi-Fi when you make an audio or video call, Skype for Business (Lync) calls you back at the number you specify. In this scenario, you’ll be connected to the audio portion of the Skype for Business (Lync) call only. Video won’t be available. This might result in usage of your mobile voice plan minutes.

Require Wi-Fi for Video

ON

Skype for Business (Lync) will use only Wi-Fi to make Skype for Business (Lync) video calls. It will never use your cellular data connection to send or receive video.

…to OFF: Skype for Business (Lync) will use your cellular data connection to send and receive video when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Skype for Business (Lync) tries to use the Wi-Fi network for video instead. Video isn’t available for calls connected via your mobile number over the cellular voice network.

Require Wi-Fi for Content

ON

Skype for Business (Lync) will use only Wi-Fi to receive meeting content. It won’t use your cellular data connection to receive meeting content.

…to OFF: Skype for Business (Lync) will use your cellular data connection to allow you to receive meeting content when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Skype for Business (Lync) will try to use the Wi-Fi network to receive meeting content instead.
