Add content to your page using the Embed web part

Embedding is simply displaying content from another website directly on your page. For example, you can watch a YouTube video directly on your Facebook feed. That video is still on YouTube, but it is embedded on the Facebook page. The Embed web part allows you to do same thing on your SharePoint page.

Displaying content using website address

You can embed content from some websites by simply copying and pasting the web address of the page.

Example of using the address of a website to embed content

This only works on websites that provide a specific service for embedding content this way. If this doesn't work for the content you want to embed, try using the embed code instead.

Displaying content using embed code

Embed code is a list of specific instructions from a website that describe how to display that content on another page. Many sites offer embed codes on their pages for you to copy and paste. You will typically see a button labeled Embed code or </>. This will open a text box with some code in it. Just copy and paste the whole thing.

For example, when you click the Share button for a video on Vimeo, you'll see the embed code shown in the share dialog.

What if neither method works

Here are the most common reasons for this:

  • We only support embedding content from secure websites. Make sure that the address of the website begins with HTTPS.

  • The website is using an incompatible method for embedding content. We only support embedding content using the website address or iframe based embeds.

If you want to embed content from unsecured websites, or by using different embedding methods, let us know on UserVoice.
