Add a new element to the tree view

In the tree view, right-click the package or class you want to add the new element to, and then point to New.

Click the type of element you want to add.
An icon for the new element appears in the tree view.
Add a new element to a diagram

In the tree view, double-click the icon that represents the diagram you want to add a new element to.
The appropriate stencil and drawing page appear.

Drag the shape representing the element you want to add to a diagram from the stencil onto the drawing page.
For many shapes, such as Class shapes, Use Case shapes, and Component shapes, an icon representing the new element appears in the tree view.
Tip: You can also add an element to a diagram by creating a new element in the tree view, and then dragging the element onto the drawing page.
Add a view of an existing element to a diagram

In the tree view, double-click the icon that represents the diagram you want to add a copy of an element to.
The appropriate stencil and drawing page appear.

From the tree view, drag the icon for the element you want to create a view of onto the drawing page.
A shape representing the element appears on the drawing page, but no additional icon representing a view of the element appears in the tree view.
Note: Any changes you make to the original element appear in views of the element.
Duplicate an existing element in a diagram

In a diagram, select the element you want to duplicate.

Press CTRL+drag to create a copy of the element.
Two elements in the same package cannot have the same name, so when you duplicate an element, a new name is assigned to the duplicate.
Tip: By default, pressing the CTRL key while dragging an element creates a copy of the element. You can change the default behavior so that CTRL+drag creates a view of an element rather than a copy. To change the behavior, on the UML menu, click Options, click the UML Add-On tab, and then, for Shape Ctrl-Drag behavior, choose Copy object view.

Drag the duplicate icon to the appropriate package in the tree view.

On the UML tab, click Drawing Options, and then click the UML Add-on tab to set options for the UML Model Diagram template that determine default behavior for shapes, packages, object names, and more.

Choose the result you get when you hold down the CTRL key and drag a UML shape. The default is Copy object, which means that you duplicate the UML element the shape represents, including all of the element's property values. The duplicate is automatically assigned a new name.
