About the Members Maintenance page in Planning Business Modeler

The Member Maintenance page is in the Dimensions workspace. The Member Maintenance page displays the members and member sets in a dimension. In the member maintenance table, you can add members to a dimension, remove members from a dimension, move members in a member set, and search in a member set. To access the Member Maintenance page, click Dimensions in the Workspace Browser pane. To open a specific dimension, click the dimension row in the table, and then click the Member Maintenance tab.

Note: You cannot delete any system-generated dimensions. Also, you cannot edit Time Dimension members.

On this page, you can view and search for member sets.

Dimension Tasks

In this pane, you can perform various dimension tasks, including create a new dimension or member, extend the calendar, and check out a dimension. The process of checking out a dimension makes other dimension tasks available and grants exclusive editing rights to the user who checked out the dimension.

Member Properties

In this pane, you can view the properties of a dimension member that is highlighted in the member maintenance table.

Dimension Structure

In this pane, you can view the relationship between the dimension member that is highlighted in the member maintenance table and any parents or children of that member in the member set.

Member Maintenance page

You can search in a member set by typing in the text boxes under the column headers in the member maintenance table. The member maintenance table displays only the dimension members with a name, label, description, or property value that starts with the characters that you type in the text boxes. Clear the text boxes to end the search and display the full set of members.

From this drop-down list, you can select the member set to which you want to add, edit, or delete dimension members.

Hierarchy

From this drop-down list, you can select how you want to view members in the table.

Icons

At the top of the Destination Member Set pane, icons provide convenient access to many of the primary tasks that you will perform. You can also access the icons on the shortcut menu that appears when you right-click an item. You can also perform these actions by using links in the Model Tasks pane. The following list summarizes the actions that you can perform by using icons:

  • Copy and paste a member.

  • Add a new member or sibling.

  • Add a new child member.

  • Remove a member from the list.

  • Modify the way the members are displayed in the table. When you use the icons, you can indent or outdent items, move items up or down, and expand or collapse all member sets to view or hide the individual members.

  • Perform a bulk edit of member properties.

Name

The name of the dimension.

Label

The label for the dimension. The label is the primary identifier of objects throughout the system.

Description

The description of this dimension. The description can be up to 512 characters long.

Dimension Tasks pane

This pane of the page is the source member set, from which you obtain dimension members to add to the destination member set.

Click this to start the Load Members Wizard.

Create a Member Set

Click this to start the Create a Member Set Wizard.

Create a Member View

Click this to open the Create a Member View dialog box.

Create a Member Property

Click this to open the Create a Member Property dialog box.

Update Member Property

Click this to open the Update Member Property dialog box.

Delete Current Member Set

To delete a member set, select it on the Member Maintenance page, and then click this link. Note that clicking this link permanently deletes the member set from the dimension.

Delete Current Member View

To delete a member, select it on the Member Maintenance page, and then click this link. Note that clicking this link permanently deletes the member view from the dimension.

Check Out/Check In

If you want to gain access to a dimension to make updates or changes to it, you must lock the file by clicking Check Out. When you finish updating the dimension, click Check In so that it is available to other users.

Cancel Check Out

When you click Check Out, the check-out process takes several seconds. If you click the Cancel Check Out link during this process, the dimension will not be checked out.

Delete Dimension

To delete a dimension, select it on the Member Maintenance page, and then click this link. You must be a member of the Modeler role or the Data Administrator role to delete a dimension.

Synchronize This Dimension to Staging Area

The process of clicking this link synchronizes this dimension to the staging database. The status bar at the bottom on PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler displays text to notify you when the synchronization is successful. You must be a member of the Data Administrator role to perform this task.

Load This Dimension from Staging Area

Loading the dimension data in Planning Business Modeler loads the reference data from the staging database to the application database. All changes to the dimension data in the staging database are integrated into the application database that includes new, updated, and deleted reference data. Reference data that is not changed in the staging database remains unchanged in the application database. You must be a member of the Data Administrator role to load dimensions in Planning Business Modeler. See Load dimension data in Planning Business Modeler.

Create the Calendar

Click this to start the Create the Calendar Wizard.

Extend the Calendar

Click this to start the Extend Application Calendar Wizard. This link is only available after the calendar has been created.
