About the Dimensions workspace in Planning Business Modeler

To access the Dimensions workspace, click Dimensions in the Workspace Browser pane. The Dimensions workspace displays a list of dimensions that are associated with a model site and it provides the dimension name, label, description, shared status, and checked-out status.

Note: You cannot edit dimension information in the workspace.

Introduction to the Dimensions workspace

You can edit dimension information by clicking the dimension row in the Dimensions workspace and checking out the dimension.

Note:  The Dimension Details pane and the Member Sets and Member Views tables are specific to the dimension that you selected in the Dimensions workspace table.

In this workspace, you can view a list of dimensions that are associated with the model site.

Dimension Tasks

In this pane, you can perform various dimension tasks. These include creating a new dimension, creating and extending the calendar, and checking out a dimension. The process of checking out a dimension makes other dimension tasks available and grants exclusive editing rights to the user who checks out the dimension.

In this pane, you can view details about the dimension.

Member Sets

In this pane, you can view member sets that are associated with a dimension.

Dimensions workspace

This area of the workspace lists details about the dimensions in the model site. You cannot edit any properties on this page.

Element

Description

Name

The name of the dimension.

Label

The label for the dimension. The label is the primary identifier of objects throughout the system.

Description

The description of this dimension.

Parent model site

The parent model site to which this dimension belongs.

Shared

If this dimension is shared with another model site, this value is set to True; if not, it is set to False.

Checked out by

If this dimension is checked out, this value gives you the name of the user or role that checked it out.

In this pane, you can perform various dimension tasks. These include creating a new dimension, extending the calendar, and checking out a dimension. The process of checking out a dimension makes other dimension tasks available and grants exclusive editing rights to the user who checks out the dimension.

Description

Synchronize all dimensions to Staging Area

Click this link to synchronize all dimensions in the model site to the staging database. You must be a Data Administrator to perform this task. The status bar at the bottom of PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler displays text to notify you when the synchronization is successful.

Create a Dimension

Click this link to start the Create a Dimension wizard.

Extend the Calendar

Click this link to start the Extend Application Calendar wizard.

Dimension Details pane

This pane displays details about the dimension you select in the workspace.

Description

Name

The name of the dimension.

Label

The label for the dimension. The label is the primary identifier of objects throughout the system.

Description

The description of this dimension.

Parent model site

The parent model site to which this dimension belongs.

Shared

If this dimension is shared with another model, this value is set to True; if not, it is set to False.
