About the Dimension Summary page in Planning Business Modeler

The Dimension Summary page is in the Dimensions workspace. The Dimension Summary page displays a summary of a specific dimension. To access the Dimension Summary page, click Dimensions in the Workspace Browser pane. To open a specific dimension, click the dimension row in the table, and then click the Summary tab.

The Dimension Summary workspace includes the following tables:

  • A General table, which displays the general properties of the dimension

  • A Member Sets table, which displays a list of member sets that are included in this dimension in the model site

  • A Member Views table, which displays the member views available for this dimension.

On this page, you can view details about the dimension you selected in the Workspace Browser pane.

Dimension Tasks

In this pane, you can perform various dimension tasks. They include creating a new dimension, creating or extending the calendar, and checking out a dimension. When a user checks out a dimension, it makes other dimension tasks available and grants exclusive editing rights to that user.

Default Members

In this pane, you can view any default members that are included in this dimension. Difference default members are included in different dimension types.

Properties

In this pane, you can view some of the properties of the dimension that you selected.

This area of the page lists details about the specific dimension that you select.

Note: You cannot edit any properties on this page.

General

This section lists the name, description, and label of the selected dimension and shows you whether the dimension is checked in, checked out, or shared.

Member Sets

This section shows you the number of member sets in the selected dimension and lists the name, description, label, and total members of each member set.

Member Views

This section shows you the number of member views in the selected dimension and lists the name, description, label, and total members of each member view.

Dimension Tasks pane

In this pane, you can perform various dimension tasks. These include creating a new dimension, extending the calendar, and checking out a dimension. When a user checks out a dimension, it makes other dimension tasks available and grants exclusive editing rights to that user.

Load Members

Click this to open the Load Members wizard.

Create a Member Set

Click this to open the Create a Member Set wizard.

Create a Member View

Click this to open the Create a Member View dialog box.

Create a Member Property

Click this to open the Create a Member Property dialog box.

Update Member Property

Click this to open the Update Member Property dialog box.

Check Out/Check In

If you want to gain access to a dimension to make updates or changes to it, you must lock the file by clicking Check Out. When you finish updating the dimension, click Check In so that it is available to other users.

Cancel Check Out

When you click Check Out, the check-out process takes several seconds. If you click the Cancel Check Out link during this process, the dimension will not be checked out.

Save Dimension

This link shows the current status of this dimension. The status values that are available for a dimension depend on the type of dimension.

Delete Dimension

To delete a dimension, select it on the Member Maintenance page, and then click this link. You must be a member of the Modeler role or the Data Administrator role to delete a dimension. Note that clicking this link permanently deletes the dimension from the application.

Synchronize This Dimension to Staging Area

Click this link to load all dimensions in the model from the staging area. You must be a Data Administrator to perform this task. The status bar at the bottom of PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler displays text that notifies you when the synchronization is successful.

Load This Dimension from Staging Area

Loading dimension data in Planning Business Modeler loads the fact data from the staging database to the application database. All changes to dimension data in the staging database are integrated into the application database. These include new, updated, and deleted fact data. You must be a member of the Data Administrator role to load models in Planning Business Modeler. See Load dimension data in Planning Business Modeler.

Create the Calendar

Click this to open the Create the Calendar wizard.

Extend the Calendar

Click this to open the Extend Application Calendar wizard. This link is available only after the calendar has been created.

Default Member pane

This pane displays the parent and any sibling dimensions of the dimension that you select.

Properties pane

In this pane, you can view some of the properties of the dimension you select.

Element

Description

Name

The name of the dimension.

Label

The label for the dimension. The label is the primary identifier of objects throughout the system.

Description

The description of the dimension.

Total members

The total number of members in the selected dimension.
