About shape migration in the UML Model Diagram template

Shape migration refers to the automatic process of updating shapes from a previous version of Visio to the current version ().

You should migrate shapes

  • When you open a file that was created in Visio 5.0.

  • Any time a file contains out-of-date shapes.

A file can contain out-of-date shapes if you chose not to migrate shapes when you opened a file created in a previous version.

If you choose not to migrate shapes, the shapes

  • Maintain their behavior from the previous version of the software.

  • Have the same right-click menus that they had in the previous version of the software.

  • Might not have the same text formatting.

  • Might not match the Visio documentation.
