Download, install, configure or uninstall an Office language interface pack

Language interface packs (LIPs) only change the language for the ribbon and commands for some Office applications and includes a spelling checker. For other language options, you might need to buy a language pack. See Do I need a language pack or language interface pack? to see which one is right for you.

If a language is available as a language pack, it won’t be available as a LIP.

Download and install a LIP

  1. On the Office language interface pack (LIP) downloads page, click the LIP language you want.

Important   You need to install the LIP version that matches your Office version. For example, if you're using Office 2013, you must install the Office 2013 LIP.

  2. After you are redirected to the appropriate language download page, click Download, follow the instructions, and then click Install.

Important   The Genuine Windows Validation Component add-on must be installed on your computer. If it isn't, the Download button changes to a Continue button. You must complete the validation process before you can install the language interface pack.

  3. After the validation process is complete, click Run to download the file to your computer.

  4. Check the box to accept the Microsoft License Agreement, and then click OK.

After the installation is finished, a confirmation dialog box appears.

Configure a LIP

After you install the LIP, you must configure Office for your new language preferences.

Important   All Office products must be closed for your changes to take effect.

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Office Language Preferences.

  2. In the Set the Office Language Preferences dialog box, under Choose Editing Languages, make sure that the proofing tools for the LIP language are installed and the keyboard language is enabled. You can change the default language for all of your Office applications by changing the editing, display, and Help language in this dialog box. For more information, see Enable the use of other languages in your Office programs.

Uninstall a LIP

After uninstalling a LIP, the display elements are no longer available for that language. But that language continues to be listed in the Set Proofing Language dialog box and the keyboard is still available.
