Show dates as days of the week

Do any of the following:

Format cells to show dates as the day of the week

  1. Select the cells that contain dates that you want to show as the days of the week.

  2. On the Home tab, under Number, click the Number Format box   Feltet Formatér tal  , and then click Custom.

  3. Under Category, click Custom, and in the Type box, type dddd for the full name of the day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, and so on), or ddd for the abbreviated name of the day of the week (Mon, Tue, Wed, and so on).

Calculate and display the day of the week for a given date

  1. Click the cell where you want to enter the day of the week for a given date.

  2. On the Formulas tab, under Function, click Formula Builder.

    An equal sign (=) appears in the cell.

  3. In the cell, type TEXT.

  4. In the list that appears, click TEXT.

    The argument fields for the TEXT function appear at the bottom of the Formula Builder.

  5. Under Arguments, click the box next to value, and then type the date for which you want to calculate the day of the week. For example, type "4/1/2011" (including the quotation marks).

  6. Under Arguments, click the box next to format_text, and then type "dddd" (including the quotation marks) for the full name of the day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, and so on), or "ddd" (including the quotation marks) for the abbreviated name of the day of the week (Mon, Tue, Wed, and so on).

  7. Press RETURN .

    If you typed 4/1/2011, the result is Friday.
