Copy formula results or formatting

A cell can contain many elements, such as a formula, cell formatting, conditional formatting, datavalidering, and the results of a formula. You can copy the whole cell, or just specific contents or attributes.

Do any of the following:

Copy the results of a formula

  1. Select the cells that have the formula results that you want to copy.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  3. Select the upper-left cell in the area where you want to copy the formula results.

  4. On the Home tab, under Edit, click the arrow next to Paste, and then click Paste Special.

  5. Select Values, and then click OK.

Copy cell formatting

  1. Select the cell that has the cell formatting that you want to copy.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  3. Select the upper-left cell in the area where you want to copy the formatting.

  4. On the Home tab, under Edit, click the arrow next to Paste, and then click Paste Special.

  5. Select Formats, and then click OK.

Copy conditional formatting to additional cells

  1. Select the cell that has the conditional formatting that you want to copy.

  2. On the Standard toolbar, click Format  Knappen Formatér , and then select the cells where you want to copy the conditional formatting.

Copy a column width to other columns

  1. Select any cell in the column that has the width you want to copy.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  3. Select any cell in the column where you want to copy the column width.

  4. On the Home tab, under Edit, click the arrow next to Paste, and then click Paste Special.

  5. Select Column widths, and then click OK.

    Tip: To copy the height of a row to other rows, you can find the exact height measurement for a row and then set rows in other sheets to use the same measurement. To find or change the exact height measurement for a row, click any cell in the row, and then on the Format menu, point to Row, and then click Height.

Copy data validation

After you define data validation in a cell, you might want to copy the data validation settings to other cells.

  1. Select the cell that has the data validation that you want to copy.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  3. Select the cells where you want to copy the data validation.

  4. On the Home tab, under Edit, click the arrow next to Paste, and then click Paste Special.

  5. Under Paste, select Validation, and then click OK.
