Thank you for upgrading from Teams Free (classic) to a Microsoft 365 subscription! Now that you've got your own new username, you need to make sure all your team members do, too. This guide will walk you through changing each person's username and generating a temporary password.
Here's how:
-
If you're not signed in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, sign in with your new username and password.
-
On the admin dashboard page, select Active users.
-
Find the person you'd like to give a new username to and open the ellipsis by their name and select Manage username and email.
-
Go ahead and make changes to the username under Primary email address and username.
Make sure the domain name shown in the dropdown list matches the domain name you choose when you upgraded. If it doesn't, look in the list for the right one and select it.
-
When you're happy with the new username, select Done and then Save changes.
-
Next, we'll reset this person's password. Start by selecting Reset password.
Make sure that Auto-generate password and Make this user change their password when they first sign in are selected. They should be selected by default.
-
Select Reset.
-
The next screen shows the new username and temporary password. Enter a known good email address for the person, then select Send email and close. Or, copy down the username and password information and get it to the person another way.
Repeat steps 3 through 8 for each person in your org.
