If you want to get early access to the newest OneNote features, bug fixes, and security updates, you can join the Office Insider program.

As an Insider, you’ll receive exclusive previews of our latest additions and updates to OneNote functionality. Your use of these early builds helps us to identify any potential issues before a wide release of these versions, provides additional diagnostics and telemetry, and gives you an opportunity to share with us your detailed feedback about your experiences.

Join Office Insider in OneNote for Windows 10

In OneNote for Windows 10, you can opt in to the Office Insider program by selecting the frequency of updates you want.

  1. Click the Settings and More button Settings And More Button in the upper right corner, and then click Settings.

  2. In the Settings pane, click Office Insider.

  3. In the Office Insider pane that opens, select the Sign me up for early access to new releases of Office checkbox to enable your Office Insider status.

  4. At the top of the Office Insider pane, click the dropdown menu to choose the Office Insider level you want:

    • Choose Insider if you want the earliest possible access to unsupported preview versions of OneNote for Windows 10 on your current computer or device. We recommend this option only to customers who don’t mind a bit of potential risk by using unsupported preview software on their computer or device.

    • Choose Monthly Channel (Targeted) if you want early access to fully supported preview versions of OneNote for Windows 10 on your current computer or device. We recommend this option to customers who want to try out new features before they’re generally available, but who might need help troubleshooting any potential issues that might arise.

Note: The Office Insider setting is device-specific. In addition, by opting in as an Office Insider in OneNote for Windows 10, you’ll automatically opt in to Office Insider status for all participating Office apps from the Microsoft Store that are installed on the same device. If you want to see Office Insider feature previews on any of your other devices, you’ll need to separately opt in to Office Insider status on each of those devices.

Tip: If you want to opt out of the Office Insider program at any time, return to the Office Insider pane and deselect the Sign me up for early access to new releases of Office checkbox. After doing so, you’ll continue to receive publicly released OneNote version updates, but you will no longer have exclusive early access to OneNote feature previews.

Download the latest OneNote for Windows 10 builds

  2. Start typing Store and then click Microsoft Store in the results list.

  3. When the Microsoft Store loads, click the See more menu button ( . . . ) near the upper right corner, and then click Downloads and updates.

  4. In the Downloads and updates list, click the Get updates button near the upper right corner.

Tip: To always install the latest Windows 10 app updates, including OneNote, click the See more menu button ( . . . ) in the Microsoft Store app, click Settings, and then turn on the Update apps automatically option.

The availability of preview features and other Office Insider updates for OneNote may vary. If you don't see any new OneNote downloads when checking for updates, please check back again at a later time.

Using Office Insider as a Windows Insider

For OneNote customers receiving Office Insider builds who have also opted in to Windows Insider status, please be aware that your Windows Insider setting will not be reflected in OneNote.

Because it’s also possible to get OneNote for Windows 10 app updates via Windows Insider, the Office Insider setting described in this article is a separate option that overrides your Windows Insider setting for OneNote updates. This makes it possible for you to better customize your overall Insider experience — for example, by opting for slower and possibly more stable Windows Insider builds while still enjoying a potentially faster release cycle for Office Insider builds.

Note: As with the Windows Insider program, the Office Insider setting is device-specific. By opting in as an Office Insider in OneNote for Windows 10, you’ll automatically opt in to Office Insider status for all participating Office apps from the Microsoft Store that are installed on the same device.
