Question or Issue |
Answer |
Cannot restore a Business Contact Manager database on a computer running Windows Vista. |
To restore a database on a computer running Windows Vista, you must be a member of the Administrators group and you must run Outlook as an administrator. To run Outlook as an administrator, do the following:
|
The recipient list of a Marketing Campaign is lost after creating the list using Mail Merge in Word. |
The list of recipients gets lost when the Campaign type is changed before the Marketing Campaign is saved. Save the Marketing Campaign before changing the Campaign type to preserve the list of recipients. |
Business Contact Manager for Outlook presents the option to open a database and the text is in a different language than Outlook. |
Outlook and Business Contact Manager for Outlook are using different languages because the Language Pack for Business Contact Manager for Outlook has been removed. Business Contact Manager for Outlook and its database must use the same language. |
Business Contact Manager for Outlook cannot create a database. |
Verify that Business Contact Manager for Outlook is not installed on a drive that is compressed. If so, install Business Contact Manager for Outlook on an uncompressed drive. To remove Business Contact Manager from the compressed drive, you must first remove compression from the drive, and then remove Business Contact Manager for Outlook. |
Financial History and Financial Summary data will not display when using a Business Contact Manager database that has been updated from Beta 2TR to RTM version. |
The Beta 2TR version of your Business Contact Manager database was integrated with Office Accounting 2007. Your Business Contact Manager database was updated to the RTM version, but your Accounting 2007 database or some components of Office Accounting 2007 were not. Close Outlook. Try the following: Install the RTM version of Accounting 2007. Or Use the Rebuild Company Data Utility in Accounting 2007 to open and update the .SBC file of the database that was integrated with the Business Contact Manager database. The 2007 Office System, Business Contact Manager for Outlook, and Office Accounting 2007 are not functioning together. |
Your 2007 Office System, Business Contact Manager for Outlook and Accounting 2007 must each be upgraded to the RTM versions to function together. |

Can pre-Beta2 files be opened in the final version of Excel 2007? |
Due to changes in the file format, all pre-Beta2 files must be saved in either Beta2 or B2TR format before they can be opened in the final version of Excel 2007. |
What file formats will no longer be supported in Excel 2007? |
Historically Excel has supported many different data formats. We have determined that a number of these older formats are seldom, if ever used. We are removing support for some file types to allow us to devote more of our efforts towards the file formats that are being used. Theses formats are being deprecated in 2 ways. For the set of file formats with the lowest usage, we will be discontinuing support for opening and saving of these formats. For the second set that has some minimal usage, we will support loading the files in Excel 2007 to allow you to save them in a newer format. The following formats cannot be opened or saved in Excel 2007: The following formats may be opened, but not saved to in Excel 2007: |
HTML is no longer a full-fidelity Excel file format. |
Excel 2007 will no longer store “Excel only” feature information in our HTML file formats. Based on very limited usage as a primary file format, we will not save Excel specific tags that retain Excel functionality when re-opened. We have found that Excel’s “Save as HTML” feature is used as a publishing format and we will continue to support it as a way to create a document to be viewed in a web browser. Excel will still open HTML files and any Excel specific features contained in the file that was created in a previous version will be preserved. Such files should be saved in one of the new file formats as a primary version of the document and published to HTML when desired. Also, previous versions of Excel allowed for publishing of Excel files to HTML with interactivity using the Microsoft Office Web Components. With the introduction of Excel Services, our ongoing investments in creating interactive spreadsheets in a web browser will be focused on Excel Services. As part of this focus we will be removing support for saving HTML files with interactivity using the Office Web Components. |

Charts in Office Excel 2007 and support for Excel 4 Macros |
Microsoft Office Excel 2007 introduces an upgraded, greatly improved charting engine. In addition to streamlining the creation of charts and adding dramatic graphical effects to make them presentation ready, the new engine is shared across other Microsoft Office applications. Whether you are working on your spreadsheet, on an Office Word document or on an Office PowerPoint slide deck, your chart, and your charting tools, will behave the same. As part of this charting upgrade, the Excel team had to re-implement macro languages and review the support strategy for older Macro languages. While most of the macro support has been implemented, some Excel 4 (XLM) macro language functionality for charting has not been. Some Excel 4 macros that manipulate charts in Office Excel 2007 may malfunction. This only applies to older macros (primarily created in Excel 5.0 and earlier) that include charting functionality. Customers that have solutions developed using Excel 4 macros against charts should validate that their solutions still work properly in Excel 2007. Charting solutions that do malfunction can be made functional using Visual Basic for Applications, which has replaced XLM as scripting language since Excel 5. |

Why does Outlook require Windows Desktop Search? |
Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 3.0 is a native component of Vista, and is being shipped separately as a system component for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users. WDS is a system service that indexes file, email and other content in order to provide fast searches over content and properties. It is an upgrade to all previous 2.x versions of Windows Desktop Search you may currently use. Outlook 2007 will have a new version of Instant Search technology that is built on top of WDS and is dependent on its presence for search to work. Outlook will prompt you to download and install Windows Desktop Search 3.0 if you are running on Windows XP. This is required in order to support our new Instant Search capabilities in Outlook. The installation process will automatically upgrade 2.5 and higher versions of Windows Desktop Search. Earlier versions of Windows Desktop Search should be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs before this version is installed. If you're running on Vista RC1 or later, you'll be good to go with no separate installation needed. |

Certain RSS feeds fail to sync and report an OLE object not registered error in the Send/Receive Progress window. |
